Why highlights avoid seen logs

When viewing a live Story inside the app, the client makes a direct mutation request containing your account credentials. Because IGViewer retrieves permanently pinned highlights via server-side scrapers that lack your personal login token, no receipt event is sent to Instagram. Browsing highlights is structurally similar to loading standard public posts.

Active 24-hour stories require live session syncs. Highlights represent permanent story groups that creators pin below their bios. IGViewer targets public highlights, allowing you to browse tutorial banks, product specifications, travel logs, and FAQs anonymously without leaving trace seen-receipt credentials.

Why we bypass the story seen event

When you watch a story inside the official app, your phone pushes a network request to register your account. This is the simulated request payload that triggers the creator notification:

IGViewer retrieves the raw static media file directly from public servers without calling this seen mutation. Because your user ID is never attached to the request, no notification can be sent to the creator.

Will the user see I viewed their highlights?

Can I view private stories?

No. If the account is private, all highlights and story archives are protected and cannot be accessed.

Why is highlights playback restricted?

Free users can see highlight group names and covers. Playing the actual video and photo slides inside the highlight requires a Premium Viewer plan.

Can I download highlights?

Yes. Premium Viewer allows you to save highlights videos and photos to your device in their original HD resolution.
